A venture into poetry about life in the Arctic.

Feet go on,

scratch, scratch,

out across jagged

little ridges.

--------------------------------------------------

Feet go on,

slip, slip,

out across rough

tiny cracks.

--------------------------------------------------

A great rift opens,

closes, spreads

again, black water

deep within.

--------------------------------------------------

A small ridge raises,

skyward, like a

growing monument,

raised to monarchs unknown.

--------------------------------------------------

Feet go on,

smack, smack,

out across smooth

wide pack.

--------------------------------------------------

Feet go on,

crunch, crunch,

out across loose

powder snow.

--------------------------------------------------

A light wind blows,

bringing back the

cold, robbing warmth

and bringing life.

--------------------------------------------------

A yellow sun hangs,

deep in the night,

sitting on his pedestal

above the Earth.

--------------------------------------------------

Feet go on,

on and on,

as man lives and loves

at the top of the world.
