I'm sorry

For all the things that didn't happen

For all the times we argued

For all the times I was angry with you

I'm sorry

You had no rachmanus on that angel

Like you promised

But you couldn't win

I wish you could have lived

To see your first great-grandchild

I wish you could have lived

To see my sister a woman

And my cousin a man

But you didn't

You traveled more places

Than I ever will

South Africa, Israel, Canada, Egypt

Switzerland, Holland, Germany, Australia

And more

You brought me back things

A stuffed koala, embroidery cloth

You loved to buy us stuff

You would have been seventy-four

If you had lived

But you didn't live

You died

And I'm sorry
