If only you knew what he did for you, would you still take him for granted?

The days were warm, and dragged along,

He clung to every ounce of bliss,

He kept blinds shut, and his tone fond,

For he just couldn't ruin her like this,

The days he had left to live numbered,

The cancer became a dark abyss.

He worked it up, the courage to share,

A piece of him he'd never miss,

The cancer.

It ate away at him,

In ways she can cannot grasp.

His life spirals out of control,

"Is this what it felt like to die?"

The lines stop rhyming,

The blood stops pumping,

And the heart stop beating.

The funeral was silent,

All but muffled sobs,

The casket was mahogony,

Her heart but only throbs,

The days no longer dragged themselves,

The traffic was in mobs,

She asked herself in quiet rooms,

"What were these dreadful odds?"

Her brain was flooded,

Memories being robbed,

Until the final flicker of a flame,

She thought to herself,

"Is this what it feels like to die?"
