I entered the chip shop, crammed with noisy people hungry after work.

The queue moved slowly like a snake slithering towards it's pray.

The smell of chips intensified with each and every step I took.

The sound of chips sizzling quietly under the sound of the people's voices,

suddenly a loud "ding", and the queue would move

as relentlessly as time ticking away.

The people looked glum, tiered and as grey as the weather

the rain fell heavily onto the roof,

the sound of the drops, faint against the other noises.

but people still piled in behind us.

the putrid stench of humanity

crammed into a small hot space

fought like a gladiator against the warm contented smell of dinner.
