I look on
As the girl sits alone.
She reaches her hand
Up to her face
And I wonder-
Is she wiping away tears?

As we sit together,
In this white bright room,
I watch
As she slips off her shoes
And curls up inside
The man's jacket she wears.

Her dress is short,
And sequinned.
It would cast
Pinpricks of rainbow
Across the wall,
If there were shadows here.

I look on
As the girl sits alone,
And I consider
Getting up
To sit beside her.
I don't.
