“Ignoring Signs”

I saw a stop sign as I was walking last night
It was lit by a streetlamp in an orange and yellow glow
And I, surrounded by silence and stuck in black and white
Looked at the stop sign, continued to walk and thought, no

A little bit further down the street was a yield sign in white and red
Feeling rebellious I didn’t bother to glance either way for cars
Who knows what could have happened, I could have ended up dead
Maybe given a ticket for jaywalking, or arrested and put behind bars

Yet as I crossed two lanes on a busy road, I didn’t seem to care
My destination finally reached, I began to give a damn
I thought to myself why I ignored those signs, pulling my hair
Discovering in doing so, I have gotten to where I am…

And THAT has made all the difference…
