"Lying between Sheets"

She hurries to leave as we finish
Abandoning my naked heart so effortlessly
I watch as she scatters quickly from room to room
Gathering her things, impatiently...
From the bathroom to the living room
She never makes eye contact
She never looks at me
The front door slams rather abruptly
I am alone...
Extending an arm to grab a loose cigarette
I light it and recline back, folding my arms behind the pillow
There's an imprint from where she slept
Instantly providing a flashback of last night's foolishness
She was perfect, at least almost so
As perfect as any woman could ever hope to be
If only it could have lasted longer...
Walking out into the living room
I reach for my wallet on the bar table
There's only a 20 dollar bill, she must have taken the rest
The flashing red light of my answering machine catches my eye
No doubt it's from my wife saying she'll be home soon.
I begin to think about this girl, I question her morals
I think of how she can possibly live with herself
But I'm reminded as my wife pulls into the driveway
That girl wasn't a whore, I am
