A Toast
(to the lovers)

The walls stare blankly
Pale as a ghost
I return the favor
Let’s take a toast

A toast to those who think
Well and bad alike
A toast to those who stare
At the pale walls every night

A toast to those walls
Who never let down
A toast to that crack
That looks like a frown

A toast to the fighters, lovers and damned
Who owe eternally
A toast to the children
Who stand gratefully

A toast to the dead
Who showed us the way
A toast to the living
Who now have to pay

The walls will keep staring
In indifference,
Without thought
And I’ll stare back
For it’d be disgrace to not
