Afraid in the Dark
It was a cold December night. I didn’t have a warm place to go. No one would let me in to their home. So, I went back to my usual hiding spot, deep in the woods of Tennessee. My clothes are ragged and disgusting, stained with blood. I shivered as the cold, wet rain dripped down my face, drenching my clothes. What went wrong, will I ever have a normal life again?
The sound pierces my ears like an eagle screeching in the wind. With every step it gets closer. I’ve been running from it almost my whole life (the sound of police sirens). I duck in the woods behind a tree; the police get out of their cars and chase me. I finally get away from them.
The next morning, I found a little broken down shack. I went inside and as soon as I stepped through the door I could smell the mustiness in the little old shack. I didn’t think anyone lived here at the time so I helped myself. I lied down on the cold, hard, dirt floor and fell asleep. When I woke up, there were two people standing over me. They were talking, saying things like, “where did he come from?”, “when did he get here”, or “I didn’t hear anyone come in. Did you?” That’s when I got up. They started asking me a lot of questions saying they wanted answers. I just told them that I was running from the police and found this shack and walked in. That’s when things got weird. After I answered all of the questions that they asked. Then they asked me where I came from. So, I told them I came from a small town in Pennsylvania. They said that’s where they came from too. After that they said I could join them because they are on the run to, plus they said no one has found them since they started hiding here in this little old crumbly shack.
We went out to look for food to eat for dinner. I killed a deer; there was blood and guts everywhere. It was like the woods were painted red-ish purple. Later I found out that those two people’s names are Mia and Austin. They said the deer was really tasty, like the best meal anyone could ever afford. After that we became the best of friends, and ran from the police until we got put in jail. Then, about thirty or forty years later, we got put in a nursing home.
