People Can Lick Too
Ally sat by the fireplace chatting on the phone
Her parents went off to the shore and left her home alone
She was planning a party for Saturday night, just a couple of her peeps
But something didn’t feel quite right and she started to get the creeps
“You’re such a baby her girlfriend teased, should I come over and hold your hand,
While your parents are away enjoying the sun and sand?”
“I’m not afraid to be alone.”
Ally said in her own defense
But judging by her voice’s tone
It was said with much pretense
“I’m not all alone anyway; I have my fierce watchdog,
who is over by the fireplace sleeping like a log.”
“If someone breaks in Max can lick them to death,
If that doesn’t do them in, there’s always his breath.”
The two girls just laughed and neither one could hear
On the news there was talk that a maniac was near
Still joking of Max’s bark being worse than his bite
They hung up the phone after saying goodnight
Ally didn’t really mean what she had said
She felt safer with Max sleeping underneath her bed
She put down the phone and turned off the set
She walked to the stairs and called to her pet
He got up slow, for he was no longer a pup
But he came to the stairs and he hurried on up
Into Ally’s room and under her bed
Ally sat on the edge and patted his head
Outside the thunder started to roar
But Max did not move from his spot on the floor
No sooner did Ally curl up and close her eyes
The thunder once more caught her by surprise
Ally reached her hand down to feel for her Max
The lick that he gave her made her relax
This went on for most of the night
And Max’s lick made everything seem alright
The thunder finally stopped and Ally was asleep
The next sound she should have heard was her alarm clock beep
But she was awakened by a loud tapping sound
The bathroom echo made it pound, pound, pound
She must have left the faucet on
And didn’t notice until the rain had gone
She couldn’t block the noise from her head
And had to climb sleepily out of her bed
She dragged herself to the noise’s cause
And was greeted by four furry paws
Max was hanging from a bloody noose
Hung there by a maniac on the loose
His blood was tapping on the floor
Then suddenly Ally noticed the door
Written there in bloody goo
Four simple words, People Can Lick Too
