As I’m writing these words, part of my brain thinks “Gee this is shit, how elementary your ideas” another part of my brain recognizes “It’s beautiful”. So which is it – shit or beauty? Art is the form of imitating reality. Writing is the form of imitating reality and communicating it to other people’s neurons so that they can judge for themselves whether it’s a shit or a beauty. Good writing is able to collectively articulate and mirror thousands or maybe millions of people’s unexposed shame, guilt, feelings, dreams and desires into a communal chant. Expressing a trueness that they’ve always felt within themselves but sewn up in that little hidden pocket of their soul that they may or may not be conscious of. It’s bringing out the goods hidden in that pocket and examining them under a microscope.
