Itachi, you promised me you would always be here with Sasuke and me.  But where are you now?

You clutch onto Sasuke's shirt as your little (e/c) eyes weep their sacred waters onto his shoulder.  Both of you were so young; much of the village couldn't understand how you two were managing.  But in all honesty, you weren't, and you were unsure if Sasuke was.

"Sasuke?" you say, your voice muffled by his shirt.  The dark haired child says nothing, only holds on to your tinier form.  Even at your young ages, he is still a bit taller than you.  You sniffle as the youngest brother pats your (h/c) hair down.  When you look up at him, you don't see the young self in his eyes, but instead a cold emptiness that even you could not fathom.  "Sasuke, why is everyone gone?"

"(y/n)," he answered, silently, "don't ask me any more questions right now."

With another sniffle, you nod.  "Okay, Sasuke."

----

The night was incredibly lit by the full moon.  You could remember it so clearly.  The way you could see your best friend's face because of the moonlight as you two ran back to his home which was not too far from your own.  Yes, you were one of the few families that lived close to the Uchiha clan's housing area; you were also one of the handful of clans -- if you could call your family that -- who were extremely close with Sasuke and Itachi's family.

This fact often led to you staying with the Uchiha brothers for the night or the day.  Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha had an adoration towards you; after all, you were like the daughter they never had.  However, they could not deny that they saw the slight crush (if there were such things for little girls' ages) you had on the eldest Uchiha brother, Itachi.  How could you not?  He was tall, handsome, protective, and so kind to you.

Itachi was everything you could've ever wanted in a big brother -- which you did not have -- but also something that caused your little heart to flutter.  It was utterly strange for a barely-seven-year-old girl to be crushing on a thirteen year old boy, but Fugaku, Mikoto, and your aunt -- who you live with -- all think it was adorable.

However, each time you came over and visited with the Uchiha family, you grew slightly jealous of Sasuke and Itachi's parents.  No one could blame you, though.  Your father left your mother when he found out she was pregnant with you, leaving her to fend for herself as she went through the nine hard months of child-holding.  But, not too long after you were born, your mother passed away when she went on a difficult mission, leaving you with your aunt as your caretaker.  Regardless, she was a wonderful replacement mom.

That night, though... you wished you could change everything for Sasuke.  Both of his parents were killed by his very own older brother.  And that is what caused you to earn a scar on your heart.

When you reach the edge of the Academy fencing, you stop.  You sense that something is wrong, that trouble is not too far away.

"Well, see you tomorrow, Sasuke," you tell the young boy.  He nods at you with a smile, but also can't shake the odd feeling.  You  play with your fingers before you're wrapped into Sasuke's arms.  You return the hug, nuzzling your tiny face into his neck.  The two of you have always been close, so this gesture was nothing out of the ordinary.

"(y/n), please be careful on your way home," Sasuke says.  "Your aunt is probably getting ready for bed, so I'd hurry home."

"Okay.  Do you want me to come with you to your house so you get home safe, too?" you ask.  With a smile, he shakes his head.

"I'll be alright, (y/n).  I'll see you in the morning."  With a short wave, he departs, sprinting home so his dad wouldn't fuss at him.  Feeling uneasy, you also decide to run home.  It isn't safe for a seven year old girl to be out by herself, anyways.

----

You tuck yourself into your bed sheets, enjoying their warmth as the cold night breeze flows through your open window.  Although you felt the odd sensation earlier, you also wanted to enjoy the wonderful night air.  And you fan wasn't working, but... regardless, the cold breeze was perfect.

You let out a small sigh as you cuddle into your pillow and soon feel yourself falling into the perpetual world of dreams.  But before your eyes can close, you see something inside your room, beside the window.  Funny, nothing was there a moment ago.  You blink, but then realize that the form moved and is now right in front of you.

You begin to shriek, but a hand captures your lips before the sound can escape.  Piercing red eyes gaze into your (e/c) ones; the nausea hits just as you blink again and find yourself in the Uchiha vicinity.  The blood red clouds.  The bodies littering the ground.  Blood. Blood everywhere.  And the culprit standing before you, katana unsheathed and pointing towards you.

"I'm sorry, (y/n)," he tells you, his voice cold yet holding a slight tint of sorrow in it.

"Itachi?  What's going on?" you ask him, cowering away from the scene.  Unfortunately, you couldn't.  After all, genjutsus are quite powerful things.  "Please, let me go and tell me what's happened!"  The scene changes and you find Mikoto and Fugaku on the ground, Fugaku atop Mikoto, both severely wounded... not moving.  You scream, trying to cover your eyes, but you can't.  You're paralyzed and forced to see Itachi kill his parents over and over with the same cruel glint in his eyes.

"Itachi, stop!" you wail, tears leaving your eyes.

"This must happen, (y/n)...," he says from the unknown.  "So you may never forget."

You reach the highest pitch in your entire life with one final scream before collapsing.  All of a sudden, the world is back to normal; you're no longer in your bed, but in the streets of the Uchiha clan vicinity.  Before you are the bodies of the dead clan members and one single form that is frozen on the spot.

"Sasuke?" you whisper, more hot tears falling.  "Itachi... Itachi did something..."

You clutch onto Sasuke's shirt as your little (e/c) eyes weep their sacred waters onto his shoulder.  Both of you were so young.  You could not fully fathom the extremity of what just took place.  Furthermore, you didn't want to.  You wanted to forget.

When you try to hold the hand of youngest Uchiha brother, he falls into your small arms. You catch him, albeit landing on your bottom.  It is there you find the familiar red eyes and fall asleep, with soft words and something also soft touching your forehead, coaxing you into deep darkness.

"I'm sorry it had to be this way, (y/n), Sasuke."

---

When you awake, a soft hand is holding onto yours.  The air reeks of medicine and cleaning sprays.  The ceiling is a boring gray; the sheets covering you are thin and don't help the shiver going along your arms.  The sound of rain enters your mind.  You don't speak as you feel a shift of weight on the hospital bed.

"(y/n)," a familiar voice asks.  Your (e/c) orbs slowly make their way to the source of the sound.  Sasuke, barely injured, clasps onto your hand.  His eyes hold the same hollowness as they did earlier that night.

"Sasuke...," you say.  His small hand slightly squeezes your own.  "Itachi... where is Itachi?"

"Don't speak of him," Sasuke snaps slightly.  You don't have enough strength to flinch.  Your eyes fall to your lap.  Perhaps recognizing his harshness, Sasuke pulls you close -- carefully -- and holds you against him.  It's horribly quiet in the hospital as you two sit in your large hospital bed.  The sound of rain lures you into another slumber.

"Sasuke, don't leave me by myself," you say quietly, your eyes fluttering as they close.  His hand pulls you close once more.  Before long, you're asleep again.

When he feels it's alright to leave you for a bit, he exits with caution and heads to the scene of the crime.  After traversing and remembering the wonderful memories he had in his home with family and friends, he finds himself in his home.  The crime tape shows the outlines of his once-present parents' bodies.  He falls and remains motionless, the only thought keeping him sane is that he had you, and he wouldn't let you go.  Not after you and he both lost everything to his killer of a brother.
