I'm new to this place and not sure I belong.

The single-family homes with there concrete

driveways and light posts on every corner that

says you are safe here.

No humans stir after dark and no four-lane

 highways to get anywhere. Just

one-way streets and culdesacs that

have yellow signs that say dead end.

I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad

does that mean I'm trapped?

No blaring horns and people yelling.

Everyone has a greeting of the day,

and you have the right away.

A trip to the mailbox makes

my aching feet scream give

me shoes.

The smell of tulips fill my

nostrils and my brain thinks

what the hell is that?

Where is  the smell of a

fire burning somewhere in

the distance and the sight

of black smoke in the air?

My hand runs along the

chain link that hold

secrets within.

I wonder if I can get used

to this place. It's so different

than what I'm used to and where

I've been.
