Unexpected memory

The Xylophone beaters are lounging

In a clear bath of disinfectant

Being lifted and shaken dry,

Droplets splattering everywhere

I feel the Holy Water again

Rain-dropping over me as

Old Father Lynch with his wee

Brass lollipop and crucible

Sprinkled my innocent young life

At 'First Holy Communion'

A light shower, signalling a change

In the spiritual weather, hopefully.
