He’s In Love With His Electronic Secretary!
By R R Monroe

By the time Harvey Turnstill arrived at the plant at ten in the morning, the crate had already been delivered and placed in his office. Excitedly, he pries the wooden crate open with the crowbar he has kept in his desk since placing the order two weeks ago. The crate opens, like an exhumed coffin, with a slow crack. She lay there silently, her eyes closed as if in a deep sleep. Her Lexan skin, flawlessly white, reflects the fluorescent overhead lighting, shining like an angel. As he pulls the inflated bags of air from the crate, Harvey giggles like a child. She’s beautiful, so much better looking than that last girl, the one who kept forgetting to pick up his suits at the cleaners. She looks smart and professional in her sharp, pin-strip miniskirt and navy blue blouse. A string of pearls hangs over her perfectly crafted collarbone. Finding the power unit, Harvey lifts the surprisingly heavy robot into a sitting position and inserts the cylindrical battery into the slot at the base of her neck. He feels the soft, sweet purr of her insides coming to life through the firm thermoplastic chest plate. “Good morning, sir,” she says happily.

Alexis has adapted surprisingly well to the dynamics of the office. It’s truly amazing what computers are capable of these days. She records each meeting and sends a transcript to the printer or email immediately afterwards. She never misses a call and she always directs calls to the correct extension. Visitors to the office always comment on how warm and friendly she is and how they are now considering purchasing a unit for their own offices. In fact, I am so pleased with Alexis’ performance that I’m looking into outfitting the accounting department with a few units, that is if General Communications and Nanotronics produces an appropriate model. Oh, and I should add that Alexis always looks professional and attractive, which is much more than I can say for most of the human beings in the office. She makes one hell of a cup of coffee to boot!

CHICAGO (AP) A judge has awarded $60 million to fifteen former employees of Turnstill Designs LLC, finding the company’s president Harvey Turnstill, 45, guilty of sexual harassment. According to the plaintiffs, Turnstill had taken an unusual interest in his GCN ES-32 Electronic Secretary. What began with publicly presenting the machine with flowers quickly escalated to inappropriate comments on the design of the humanoid robot. The company’s wellbeing became a concern when Turnstill spent more and more “private meetings” with the Electronic Secretary. Transcripts of these meetings, which consisted mostly of Turnstill’s sexual fantasies, were often emailed to every employee. When confronted by Alice Blackwell, one of the plaintiffs in the case, Turnstill angrily fired her. Employees jointly filed the lawsuit after Turnstill outfitted the robot’s articulating mouth with a silicon polymer typically used in high-tech sex toys. Harvey Turnstill could not be reached for comment.
