If only I could unforget

That thought so wise that ‘scaped my mind,

O thinkers, ever in my debt,

You'd cite my works as writ divine.

Would askers gather round my throne

To probe my vast and learnèd mind?

To glimpse my own philosophers stone

Would people pay and wait in line?

Like Solomon in his wiser days,

I’d revel in my wisdom famed.

Like solomon in his foolish days,

I'd lose my wisdom just the same:

For as I went to quickly write it,

'Twas gone before i found some paper...

If only I could unforget,

If only i could just remember.

I guess it’s better to have thought

A thought and have forgotten all

Than never to have thought that thought--

At all.
