I was talking to my friends in school today when, somehow, we came to the topic of writing. My friend Asraar said he that he writes poetry and would like people his age to read it. I asked him, "Why don't you try a blog?" He said he already had one. Hearing that I became really happy. I told him, "You know Asraar, knowing that you write poetry and a blog makes me really happy."

"Why does that make you happy? Shouldn't it make you jealous  that I do it and you don't"

"No, that's not how I think. I found out a couple of days back that someone I know published an e-book and writes a  blog and now I know about you  and although it shouldn’t really make me happy, it does make me happy. It's because you people make me feel like I stand a chance; that if you can do it, I can too."

There are other people in the world (many in my school that I know of) who, upon finding out about Asraar's blog would have said, "Show-off" or "What's the point?" but, honestly, those are just pessimists, like dark clouds in the sky hiding sunshine that makes the world happy. I'm glad I'm not one of them.

Another thing happened today during Physics class when I was sitting next to I___ and F___ and talking about don't-remember-what. I___ is fair but she's kinda, well, big with probably the worst hair in class. F___ is short and dark. I am fat and not pretty. So, you see, all three of us score pretty low on the physically attractive scale (although high on every other scale). Now, we were talking and out of the blue I said, "You know, we're gonna grow up and be so beautiful and when we get together at our reunion, all the boys will say, 'Damn, I wish I had married her'" and both of them started laughing. "It's true, believe me, and, even if it isn't, at least it makes us feel better." I said, and I know that it really made them feel better and me too.

There are three important things in life: Truth, Lie and Unknown. And these things are dominated by choice. We know the truth and the lie and the difference between them and most of the times we choose to believe in the truth and not believe in the lie. However, there are also certain unknown things in life, the fate of which we get to decide. That's when our choice plays it's heroic role. As I said to my friend Ahmed in the assembly this morning, "Imagination is free so I can use it as much as I want", let your imagination run wild. Think of all the good possible outcomes that things could have. Forget all the negatives in life; they just make your life dark and gloomy. Bask in the sunshine; be strong enough to break through the clouds and fly high and hug the sunshine. And if you can't find your own sunshine, borrow from others. After all, like imagination, sunshine is also FREE.

Life is beautiful, but it all depends on how we see it. It's the choices we make and the way we think that decides it's beauty. Look for the sunshine everywhere you go and everything around you will be bright. And remember what Captain Planet always says, "The power is YOURS!"
