I see the muscles in your shoulder tense.
What was once a paw is now the adept hand of a jungle animal,
a big cat,
a carnivore.
You yawn and show not teeth,
but sharp incisors,
tools to hunt your prey,
powerful instruments of exactness.
Your tail twitches,
not just an appendage,
but a balancing tool,
a limb to ease movement through trees,
an indicator of your bodies’ progression through the wilderness.
You are leopard and lion,
panther and lynx.
You roll over.
You are pet and cat,
house animal and kitten.
Your claws appear.
You are hunter and hunted,
predator and prize.
