Bitter is another sip,

Degraded over the years.

I am told it is sweet,

The essence and fruit of life.

Why then do I choke,

Alone and surrounded?

They watch me gasp,

Awaiting my deep surrender.

Their familiarity is unsettling,

Showing distant sympathy,

While methodically binding me,

Until the struggle ceases.

Again wishing them well,

Promising a ‘morrow return,

Welcoming another day closer,

To the dream of release.
