there is no clock

but the long white curtain

puffs and flaps like a living thing

and I smell the heat of mid morning

you are all soft and still with sleep

and I ache at the beauty of it

so I move slow

watching you

but it is no good

and you stir

"what now" you ask mostly asleep

but I only smile

"never mind"

now your eyes open

"are you going?"

"just down to the water" I whisper

as if you still slept

and then I see your fingers

moving to your temples and twining into your hair

and I feel the sweetness of knowing why

"oh good" you say almost sleeping again

"bring some for me"
