The poet dealt with the devil

In exchange for his very soul

The devil would give the poetAll the poems his pad could holdThe poet became famousHis work stood the test of timeThe devil stole the poet’s soulFor one thousand poems of rhymeThe poet led a grand lifeBut he was growing oldThe devil had been patienceBut he was growing boldThe poet wanted to back outOf the deal that had been struckNow the devil came for paymentAnd the poet was out of luckThe poet begged the devilHe pleaded for more timeThe devil laughed and shook his headGive me your soul, it’s mine
