I'm not allowed in the basement.

If I go down there, mommy is gonna get mad and yell at me. I didn't know why I'm not allowed, but she said it because a monster lived down there.

"I'm not afraid of a monster." I tell her with a stern look.

"Youll be scared if this one." she says to me, patting my head.

I pout and cross my arms as my anger begins to swell inside me. It wasn't fair.

I didn't ask her about it for the next two months.

In those two months, mommy had more of a night shift schedule, so I came up with the bright idea to go to the basement then.

She was gone for almost the whole day, getting back around 11 PM, when I would be asleep.

I kiss her goodbye in the morning and wait until 5 PM to commence my master plan.

The car leaves and when the clock strikes 5, I run downstairs, a smug smile on my face. This was actually going to work.

I get downstairs and there is nothing but pitch black and cold around me. I touch the wall and make my way to a door at the end of the hallway.

I reach around for a handle and twist it, forcing the door open with my body. It is dimly lit.

A man sits in the corner of the room, chains binding him to the wall, breathing heavily. His spine and rib cage can be seen through his scarred skin.

He looks up at me with a kind smile, red teeth are now bared to me. I take a step back.

"Hello, David." The man says, pushing a piece of flesh behind him.

"Has your mother not returned with my food, or has she brought me you?" He stands from his resting place, skin and bones more visible than ever. He takes a step forward.

I shake my head and close the door shut, stepping away from it.

I turn to run away, back to the safety of my bed and hit my mother.

She stares at me with her blue eyes, a frown growing deeper on her face.

"A monster lives down here." She says as her frown continues to deepen.

Tears begin to fall from my eyes and my heart speeds up.

She grabs my arm and opens the door.

I scream and cry, hoping someone can hear me, but the basement door is shut tight.

I kick at her as she drags me to the man in the corner.

He has a frown on his face as well as my mother.

"You're just like your father." Mommy says to me, taking my face in her hands.

She grabs the corners of my mouth and begins to pull them down, tear running quicker than before.

I can see the man in the corner grab the corners of his mouth and pull them down as well, my eyes widen as my cries are no more, surrounded by the sound of laughter.

Mommy and daddy are happy again.
