The night which follows you through the days,
As light fades its strength weighs
heavier to its size which grows.
An absence of light,
an occasional cause for fright.
As night it is when the time it comes
the thing becomes
an omnipresent being.

A follower across the lands,
even longer on the sands.
Time is its friend and its foe
and buildings its nemesis in tow.
A follower followed by light
an all to common sight.

Can you guess this man from the shadow lands?
It's owner, its bearer their own feeling in its hands.
No trace leaves it not a feint fainting in a distant cry,
for our own eyes see it as nothing, this perhaps a lie.

A duplicate of all but joined at one,
a set of one of a mark left in the sand,
where feet once lay and grow to two.
A friend or foe and its bearer so strong,
but untouchable the other,
an impossible task.

An end marks one but the other for long,
forgotten time never marks it wrong.
Live long, live long like its growing size,
for if one dies the other's demise,
the owner,
the bearer,
so strong.
