On a lonely street, in the black of night, a lone man ran. He stumbled and he fumbled but he continued to run. When he fell it was no matter because he picked himself up and off he ran! Down the street he ran, into the on croaching darkness that only continued to grow.

The street was strangely dark. The light posts had long since blown as though leaving the man to his resigned fate. His heart pounded in his ears and he knew for sure the predator hunting him could hear it. And it reveled in the terror being wrought upon the poor man.

A giggle sounded to his left and he whipped towards it. The giggle sounded strangely childish and feminine. He stood for a moment, panting, desperately trying to gather what air he could for the long trek back to the safety of his house. For he knew, by what odd little voice told him so, that this creature could not enter his home.

If he could outrun it that is.

He heard a snipping sound. Or not exactly a snipping sound, but a cutting motion that sounded strangely as if something were cutting through the air. Suddenly instinct took over and he fell forward just as a blade zipped through the space where his head had just been. All though the motion had been strangely slow as though this creature was merely toying with him. That's what it was doing, he'd realized when this chase had started, it was toying with him like Cat and mouse.

His apartment was only a couple of blocks away! The man had no idea that he wouldn't even make it to his apartment.

The streets on the way to his apartment were lonely, the street lights having long since been cut off. It was more than that though he'd realized. As his feet crunched over broken glass he realized with shock that the glass fixtures covering the lights had shattered. Was it possible that the creature chasing him had done that?

On and on he ran but even as he began to slow down he heard no signs of being pursued, nor had he seen anything odd. It took him a while longer before he wondered whether or not it was safe and uncertainly he slowed to a walk. The man stood there panting as he surveyed his area. He'd been unimaginably happy when he saw his apartment standing there like a lone mansion sitting against a hill.

Now he could finally put this nightmare behind him. Or so he thought.

As his hand reached for the door knob he felt something cold against his neck,"You're too slow mister." Before he could turn around the blade sliced clean through his neck and his body dropped, effortlessly to the ground. There was a split second of unbearable pain before everything turned dark.

As blood came oozing across the pavement a young girl knelt beside the body and giggled, crooning to the dead man,"Mister! I've found you! Let's play again sometime~!" A light flickered on somewhere nearby and the light caught the edge of a blade, the young girl's scythe.

Its not the banshee's scream you should fear but her scythe.
