I lay in semi-darkness,
Those moments that do
Mark us
Restless, poor souls!

I sat in bed, and upright,
To wage a war of some flight,
To write and
Full of vague hope
Of that of what I had wrote
Would become the perfect
Ancedote,
But ate such words 'til
I choked.

The Four Seasons of Vivaldi,
Would become the soft
And sandy
Seaside of my wishes,
But were blown about
To wreckage!

And so, to no avail,
This perennial, durable tale,
This unyielding, restless state,
Of which, I, wholly awake,
Would drag on to
The morning late, and
Yes, I did resign,
I was the sleepless bait!

Yonder on that staircase,
Of my tired, hopeless face,
The sleepless sight exploited,
There is no rest for solace!
