Getting lost and winding up in an unfamiliar city; sucked. I was hot, tired, and I had to pee. I drove down the dusty dirt road to find a nice looking place where I could relieve my bladder. Finally I spotted a nice, country general store, on the right side of the road. I pulled in a put my itty-bitty car into park. Stepping out of the car I felt my tan high-heels dig into the soil and my floral dress stuck to my sweaty legs. This hadn't been the greatest day.
I walked up the steps onto the wooden porch of the store. The floor boards were old and creaked as I put my weight on them. I glanced over at the 1950's Coke machine next to the screen door. The bell over my head jingled as I pulled the door open, swatting at a mosquito as I went.
"Well, Howdy Missy." An old man said from behind the counter. "What can I do for ya?" He had a dirty rag in his hand and was wiping off some dust on the shelves behind him.
"Well sir, I would really appreciate you letting me use your loo." I said politely in my southern drawl. He chuckled and pointed me to the back of the store.
I followed his gaze to a door on the southern wall. It was another screened in one, that I guessed led outside. I gave him a crooked look and sighed. I went to the door and pulled it open to find my self faced about 20 feet away from a small closet with a moon shape cut out of the door.
I looked around to see if someone was pulling a fast one on me. I guessed not. I went to the closet and locked the piece of wood as securely as I could. Turning, trying to ignore the awful stench coming from the hole in a slab wood, I hiked up my dress, pulled down my knickers, and squatted.
When I finished, I went back into the store, grumbling and complaining about the heat and the situation I was in. The heat was really starting to get to me, it was probably about 89 degrees, hotter than hell. I looked through the store, trying to find some kind of fan, for my AC had unfortunately stopped working the day before. All I could find was a couple of yo-yos, old fashioned candy, and basic groceries for the common household. I grabbed a map from the front of the store and opened it up, searching for a route out of this town. I muttered to myself, running my finger up and down the road I had started on. The bell jingled again and I turned to see who had come in.
It was a man. He had dark brown hair, which fell a little to much into his face, and bright green eyes. His face was clean shaven, except for a little tuft of hair on his chin. He wore loose semi-open, white shirt with a green tie, and brown dress pants.
He smiled at the old geezer when he walked in, and then his eyes fell to me.
Now I'm not one to usually be vain, but I wasn't terrible looking. I had a soft honey colored hair, and blue eyes. I didn't have a bad figure and I had really nice legs, especially in the dress and heels I was wearing.
He wondered through the store, every once in a while, glancing up at me. I gave him a flirtatious smilewhen he did, inviting him to talk to me. Finally he gave in to his temptations and came over to say hello.
"Hey Beautiful." He said leaning on a rack as he grinned at me. "What brings you around these parts?"
I shrugged. "Just lost, I guess." I looked down at the floor, embarrassed. He chuckled loudly.
"Don't worry, it is pretty easy to get lost around here." He said, reassuringly.
"So, what's your name?" We both asked at the same time. I grinned.
"Jinx, you owe me a soda." I said gesturing towards the door. He nodded and pulled out his wallet and we headed outside to the porch. He pulled out twenty cents and placed both in the soda machine, one at a time. He then handed me an ice cold Coke, and popped the lid of his own. I smiled. "The names Bailey." He extended his hand.
"James." He said. "So how did you get lost, you live pretty close around here?" James asked.
I shook my head. "I live in Charleston, a friend of mine was supposed to meet me in Nashville for a..." I searched my brain for the word. "Romantic weekend." I said finally, unable to come up with another way of saying it. "And I wound up here, in the middle of no-where." I sighed and slumped up against the Coke machine. "What are you doing in a town like this?" I said defensively.
"Romantic weekend eh?" He laughed. "Sounds promising, and I'm here for my sisters wedding, she's marring this uptight asshole, I just came from the rehearsal." He rolled his eyes and took a swig of his drink obviously wishing it was something stronger. "Anyway," He said turning the subject back to me. "There are way more things in this town to entertain you than a few nights of love making." My mouth opened and closed, I was going to protest and say that there was nothing sexual about what me and my 'Friend' had been planning, but what the hell, I couldn't lie to the guy, there was just something about him...
"So what kind of fun things are there to do in this town?" I said, wiping sweat off my brow. James reached over and pulled a piece of my hair out of my face and placed it behind my ear.
"Well, I guess I'll have to show you. Won't I?"
