Kings and queens and crowns and reigns and
Higher powers upon snow-checkered plains
Cold winds churning a wintery white flood
The ivory arena longing for blood

Peasants marched forward, one step or two
From their rifles, bullets flew
For success they would sacrifice
To us war is game, we’ll roll their dice

The knights rode onward, swords in hand
Forming the backbone of a brotherly band
Now their bodies lay lifeless and spent
Casually removed from a reality lent

The families of lost soldiers in agony cry out
Justification for war becomes shadowed by doubt
The bishop will speak and his sorrows will fly
Like angels criss-crossing through the night sky

Unfortunately war will exist for all time
Evoking emotions as tempers climb
Death, taxes, peace, love, and hate
No lives will be lost tonight said the man
“Checkmate”
