You may be interested to learn that the inspiration for my debut novel stemmed from an epiphany that my publisher had way back in the 1980’s. When he saw the first schematics of modern digital electronic telephone exchanges, he noticed that long distance signalling systems had been used to connect the internal building blocks of the exchange together. He realised then that this would pave the way for today’s highly distributed telephone networks and also make overseas call centres a reality. If we apply the same reasoning to cybernetics then the severed limbs of an octopus, for example, could still touch, feel, and grapple on behalf of the whole organism - even when separated by thousands of miles. Imagine, if you really could have a finger in every pie!

PS: Please note that as my publisher and I are both based in the UK: we spell "center" as "centre", and if you follow the link to the poetry then you need to know that a "Bum" is a person's "Buttocks" and not a vagrant.
