Every lunchtime, the two men sat propped up by the oak.  Today, only two sheep regarded them from the field.

"The beast came again last night," the first sounded worried.

"Arr," his companion replied.

"Took two of 'em.  Ripped out their guts and dragged them into the forest."

"Arr?"

"Not many left now, and it's been worrying me..."

"Arr?"

"Will the beast be satisfied when he's finished them all off?  What'll it eat then?"

"Maybe it'll start on us," the second of the talking sheep replied as the blood from the hollowed-out bellies of the farmers congealed in the bright sunshine.

"Arr!"
