THE FAIREST OF FAIR

Verse 1

I knew of a man with the world in his eye

Born of a land where the mountains stood high

And one day as mighty as mountains he'd be

When he would be ruler of all he could see

Verse 2

With visions of fortune though knowledge of none

For treasures unknown had his journey begun

He rose with the sunrise and southward was gone

His feet were as dancers, his heart bore the song :

Chorus:

'I will marry the fairest of fair

With the purest of silver to spare

Yea, banquets of plenty and garments so rare

My aim in this life I declare :

Is to marry the fairest of fair'

Verse 3

Then laying to rest in the shade of a tree

A fellow approached, and a messenger he

'Make haste to return to your mother he cried,

For she is unwell sir, be swift to her side'

Verse 4

His homeland had beckoned and he did return

Though ventures were fruitless, a lesson was learned

That yonder the mountains, still higher than he

Still mighty, yea higher, forever to be

chorus

'I will marry the fairest of fair

Though for silver I no longer care

For treasures lie homeward, my riches be there

And maybe one day, I declare

I will marry the fairest of fair'
