LEFT BEHIND

These shadows that burn inside my veins,

Disturbing me,

Are suddenly

More precious than all I’ve ever known,

In all my shortest years.

Today I need you all to go away,

Can you hear me?

Will anyone listen without trying to break me,

Trying to make me stay?

Too long have my steps been haunted,

And now they’re taught to turn away,

So long have my thoughts been stirred by you,

So long astray.

Now only sadness invoked here for you,

You are my ill news,

And so my ill guest.

The fire that lights this path divine,

Enticingly,

Reminding me

Of sacrifice I’d hoped I would never know,

In all these longest years.

Here I cried and now you’ve gone away.

Why do you haunt me?

I’m fading away and it’s starting to break me,

Now left behind, I fear to speak your name.
