There's a day that I remember. Back when I was 7. A day I would never forget. When all my laugh equaled cries.

My friends and I were playing a game. It’s called Hide-and-Seek. For a 7 year old like me, this was heaven. This was cake with layers of chocolates, this was sex with the hottest man alive. This was the life.

Best Day Ever.

Around lunch, all my siblings were called by the school, I was the last, my uncle was there and he told us that we get to visit mama today. We were all so happy. We never get to visit mama. She’s always sick. I hope I know what to do to help her. All they’re telling me is to keep being a good girl for mama. So I was. But now we get to see her. This happens only once a month and I was as excited as ever. This was meters of chocolate icing on top, this was sex with the richest Man alive.

Best Day Ever.

The ride to the see mama was long but none of us felt tired. It felt like Christmas morning with all the jokes and the laughter. My uncle kept laughing and joking, he kept telling us stories about when my older siblings were little. My older sister, after getting her lunch money from mama was smart enough to go down to our grandparents room to ask for lunch money as well. Smart kid. I wonder why I never thought of that before. I’ve never had this much fun with my uncle and siblings. This was shaved chocolate on top of the icing, this was sex with the sexiest man alive.

Best Day Ever.

When we got to her room, it took us a while to get to her. Wow this was a party. Everyone seems to be here, crowding her. It’s all so exciting. Maybe she got well, maybe she’s finally going out of the hospital and this was her get-together-I'm-leaving-this-hospital-party. Finally. I need a mom. This is all so great. This was melted chocolate inside the cake, this was sex with the man you love.

Best Day Ever.

The first thing I saw was my papa. Oh how I missed him. He was just as much gone as mama. Wherever mama was, papa was there too. It was sweet to see how papa would always take care of mama, caress her hair til she falls asleep, kiss her forehead when she’s finally sleeping.

But papa’s different. He’s shivering. His body wrapped with a towel. Why is he wet and shivering? That’s when I turned to see my mama on the bed. Her body fully covered with a white cloth. Why is she covered? I even asked my grandma if she can breathe as I pulled the cloth off of her face. My grandma told me to kiss her so I did and she felt so cold. Maybe that’s why she was so covered, she was cold.

Oh how I missed my mama. I’ll just wait for her to wake up and we can all go and party like we always do when she’s home. I’m so excited. I want to tell her about the star I got from my art assignment.

I asked my grandma. “When will mama wake up? I need to tell her something”

Her only reply was “You can whisper it to her, I’m sure she can hear it from heaven”

What happened to my best day ever? How can I cry as much as I have laughed? I wish I was never happy. I wish my morning was horrible. I wish I failed all my exams. I wish I never played. I wish I never laughed. Maybe mama would still be with me now.

The cake was perfect, but it was rotten. The man was perfect but he did not love me.

Smiles to frowns. Laughters to cries.

That you've had to go through that when you were seven. It's so sad. I can't think of losing your family when you are so young.

Thank you so much for reading. It was hard, but I learned that life will keep throwing you rocks. The best way to live is either to dodge the rocks, or catch it and hit life back right on the face. :)

Thank you so much for reading. It actually was real. I was 7 at that time, and I happen to remember every ironic detail that happened that day when I found out that my mama died. I was trying to write it in a way that would capture the emotions of the readers just as much as that day captured mine. Thank you so much for making me feel fulfilled. X. :)

Very heartbreaking. To be expecting one thing, but getting the complete opposite instead. I wish the adults would have done something to prepare her for the incredible loss. I felt the pain as I read this. Very well written.

Oh wow...this is so heart-breaking. I was completely caught off guard because the protagonist seemed so happy to see their mother as it led up to the event, but then when they arrived it turned out to be something terrible. Very well-written!!
