Thinking about Our Writing
“I do not want to direct my students every action and decision about their writing. My goal is to teach them to think critically and communicate clearly about their writing in order to gain understanding and become better writers.” (Swartzendruber-Putnam 88)
Dawn Swartzendruber-Putnam wants us students to make our own decisions about writing. Putnam doesn’t want to direct us in our writing instead we have to figure out our own way of writing and make correct decisions. Putnam wants to teach us to think critically and communicate clearly about our writing by helping us understand what our writing is about. Also we need to know how to know how to understand our own writing so that the teacher will know what our point is and what we are trying to teach. We need to think critically to have good writing so our teacher can be proud of us and we know exactly what is going on throughout any of our writing assignments.
When it comes to writing I have had help in the past from my English professors and they wanted me to think of what I am going to write about before I start writing. They always wanted me to understand what my writing is going to be about because I need to communicate throughout my entire essay with my audience. Reflecting on my writing is a good think because having to reflect is helpful because I take my time to know what I am going to write about. Sometimes I do not really reflect much because my brain starts to hurt and it too overwhelming trying to think too hard just for writing. Reflecting is helpful and can also not be helpful it only depends on how people really are. For me it’s sometimes helpful and sometimes it’s not really helpful.
I want to find out how my reflection on writing is now because I really don’t have to reflect on much. If I can reflect on what I am going to write about I will do my best to think critically and communicate really well to gain full understanding of my own writing. Hopefully my reflecting skills on writing will be good.
