When you were little did you ever say, “ I WANT A KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR TO RESQUE ME FROM MY TOWER!”

I know I did. When I was a kid, my life wasn’t the greatest, my mommy died when I was a baby, so I didn’t remember her. My Dad, well he was a drunk, he would sometimes hit me. My only escape, was through my Auntie Rachael. She was their for me. She stood up against my dad, just to save me! When my Dad would start to drink she would come over, and we would go to her small apartment, it was just down the street from my home. We would make cookies, then we would watch a princess movie, my favorite wasSleeping Beauty, I just loved how the Princess got saved by her Knight in Shining Armor!

When I got to be Seven my Auntie died of Cancer. She was only 24 but she had liver Cancer. My dad got mad at me, he said it was my fault, he broke my arm. He told me that since she was gone now I would have to stick around and I couldn’t watch princess movies anymore.  My dad, he didn’t let me go to the Funeral. I had to sneak out, I had my Aunties Boyfriend pick me up, he took me to it. I, unlike others wore a pink dress, everyone else wore black. I knew my auntie hated the color black, so I wore pink instead.  During the sermon, I went up on stage, the Pastor was talking still, I patiently stood behind him. People started laughing, the pastor bent down and asked me what I was doing, So I said, “I know my Auntie best, so I wanna tell people about her!” He nodded his head and told the people in the audience that I wanted to say something.

I stood on a stool, and said, “ My Auntie, well people she HATED black, she hated people crying over her. But she loved everyone who was ever in her life. So I know she would forgive you for crying and wearing black. Oh and I know she would forgive you for for talking behind her back like this.” I was talking serious so I didn’t know why people were laughing, I mean common, It was rude of them to do. But I continued on anyways. “ People say, Im sorry for your loss, and My aunties boyfriend, made it quit clear that she is gone for good. But Im sorry, Kevin. Your wrong, my auntie is here for me. I just can’t see her. I can feel her with me though. I also see her inside of me. So I know that she isn’t gone. So THERE!” After I said that I hopped of the stool and walked off the stage. I walked to the Casket and said goodbye to my Auntie for good. I was gonna miss hearing her voice, but I knew I was right.

Years passed, I would go home right after school. I looked bad because my dad wouldn’t give me money to go shopping, or money to eat lunch. I have curves, but I am very skinny. My dad never went shopping, except to buy bills. It was a  wonder that he even went to work. I would go home clean up the mess, grab a book and water bottle. After that I would leave. I always left before my dad came home. It was the only way I could stay out of the hospital. I didn’t have many friends. I was kinda intimidating. I could fight, physically and verbally so no one messed with me. I would go to the park in front of my aunties old apartment.  I would go to my bench, and read or do homework for hours. I would go home around eleven at night. I would climb in through my window. I would sleep until four in the morning. I would wake up, get in the shower, get dressed, and put on some eyeliner. I stole two dollars from my dads wallet to buy food. I would leave at Five, I would grab a granola bar, and I would walk to school, an hour away.

On a particular day, there was a new student, the principal asked me, an honor student, to show him around school. I went to the office to go get him. His name was Frederick. I walked into the office. I see him. I stop and stare. He was very attractive. He had golden brown hair, natral tan skin, and he was taller then me. I walk up to him, he tells me to call him Freddie. I tell him my name is Rowan. He smiles and he says that it is nice to meet you. I say likewise, I show him around the school. We have three hours together. Third, lunch, and Sixth. During third hour girls stared at us, they give me rude looks, Freddy is sitting next to me. Each time the teachers back is to us we talk, I learn things about him, I tell him my favorite color. Blue, he tells me his is the same.

Weeks past, we become friends. he is my only friend. I like him but  am to shy to tell him. One day he offers to give me a ride home, I accept, I have him drop me off, I didn’t think my dad would be home, but he was. He was inside. I hurry up and thank Freddy for the ride, I run inside, only to be hit by a crow bar in the leg. I let out a cry. Freddy comes inside, he punches my dad in the face. He then saves me he took me to his house, it was a apartment, when I looked around, It was my aunties old apartment. I hear my aunts voice. She tells me he is my Knight in shining armor.
