It’s funny how relationships

Can be your dream come true.

They heal your heart from the inside out

And bring to life a new you.

When your heart is happy

It’s almost impossible not to smile.

You thank God for the hard times

Knowing now that it was all worthwhile.

The bliss continues on

Until that inevitable first fight.

It’s the first time in awhile that you remember

What crying yourself to sleep feels like.

You make a promise to yourself

To never end up how you were before.

You’re better than that, stronger,

So your heart slams the door.

Once the seed of mistrust is planted,

It seems to grow like a weed.

It never completely disappears,

All it does is feed, feed, feed.

One lie leads to another,

There’s never only one.

It doesn’t stop for your feelings

Until all the damage is done.

You curse yourself for falling,

For believing what you were told.

Having your heart broken

Is really starting to get old.

If only he would reassure you,

Or promise to change and prove it.

Otherwise, once again you’ve given

Your heart away only to again lose it.

Addictive, luring, and tempestuous,

Love seems to be nothing but a vicious cycle.

It seeks you out when you least expect it and

Unfortunately, there’s little chance of survival.
