This is a song I wrote on a strange whim, but I figured you folks on Booksie would give me the time of day and be kind enough to consider it poetry. :)

It's about the corruption and materialism of the world. How people try to fill their lives with things to hide the emptiness, and if you listen carefully....you can hear the echos of loneliness and unfulfillment.

THE ECHOS
Like a damp cave,
Hollow and dark,
There’s nothing in me to save,
Not after everything I gave.
Can you hear the echo?
I can hear it tremble in my heart,
As I look emptily out the window,
How could I have sunk so low?
Echo, echo, echo,
How far will we all go,
Not to hear the echo,
Echo, echo.
It’s within us all,
This startling emptiness,
We fill ourselves with what is droll,
Trying to give ourselves the illusion we’re full.
Can you hear the echo?
I can hear it tremble in my heart.
As we stare out our windows,
How could the world have sunk so low?
Echo, echo, echo,
We’ve all gone so far,
Not to hear the echoes,
We shatter the world with our echoes.
Spirits turn to dust,
Hearts to stone.
Kindness and instinct are hushed,
To drown out the echoes within us.
Echo, echo, echo....
