I'm not a poet; I'm a song writer. So anything I post as "poetry" is lyrics to an original song.
This one is inspired by the book "Get Well Soon" by Julie Halpern about a girl in a mental hospital who narrates her story in a series of letters to her best friend, Tracy. Great book, check it out. Feedback on these lyrics would be great and I'd love you forever (:

Walls, surrounded
By pictures of everything that mean nothing at all.
The crawl space in the back of my mind has been so unkind,
It's shrinking as I am thinking
Of what to say to everyone I've let down
And what to say to you.

Dear letters unsent written by a broken friend.
I am bathing in my own sin, contagious to the skin I'm in.
From the comfort of reality, I was bent by my twisted fairytale mentality.
These bruises prove that all that's left to lose are the veins that protest I'm no better than all of the rest.

Crack a window, 'cause it's my only getaway.
Needlessly, it's safe to say you won't miss me if you look away.
As I struggle to release me from myself, I am content being anyone else.
I am not scared; I am too prepared.

Please say it's too late to plead for myself again...
