My Heroin

A sliver of sunlight found its way through the window of a bedroom and danced upon the petite features of an angelic face. A pair of black eyelashes slowly opened and two majestic orbs of hazel scanned the beige ceiling above them. A porcelain hand pushed of the inviting bed and a small girl rose from her peaceful slumber to face the new day. Her feet shuffled towards a door that leads to the chaos filled room she calls her bathroom. Magazines, newspaper, curlers, razors, towels, and a brush or two decorate the ocean tiled floor, the girl then hops around the mess and finally arrives in front of the glass door that slid open revealing a surprisingly clean shower. After the short shower, she ran down the carpeted stairs as fast as a cheetah about to spring upon its prey and continued to head out the plain white door without slowing her stride.

She stops in front of a tall building and walked briskly in through the heavy double doors in the front of the prison most teenagers call high school. BAM! Suddenly she is sprawled on the floor after colliding with what seemed to be a brick wall right in the middle of the halls of Brown High School. As she tilts her head forward she noticed that a tall boy is kneeling in front of her with his vibrant green eyes staring at her with not anger as she expected but, deep concern. “I’m so sorry.“ His voice was husky, gentle, but the scars on his hands came from a troubled past. Her mouth opened as if to talk but nothing came out except for her shallow breaths. She stared into his eyes so intensely it seemed to take eons before she blinked.

“It’s okay”, she finally is able to spit out after minutes of an awkward silence

The young man knelt over to pick up the books he and this new stranger he has just been acquainted with had dropped. He handed them over to her, revealing a name tag pinned on his shirt.

“Brandon”, she mutters under her breath but unfortunately for her he heard

He glances up at the mention of his name. The look in his eyes held a glint, like he was trying to suppress a laugh. RING! RING! A loud noise disturbed their uncomfortable situation, alerting them that first period was about to begin. Brandon lifted himself of his numb knee and fled to find his class. She did the same, not wanting to be late for the first day of her junior year.
