How did we cultivate such silence

so completely?

Now it be too full to abate

the violence easily.

What is the sound of a dozen quiet eyes?

Even flowers turn towards the sun

for warmth and cheer

yet we exist as a conscious of one

in fear. In fear of ecstacy

of elation

Should a stranger present to thee

the seldom sought sensation

of joy, wrought in the hands

of every man

once a boy of song

a small melody of life

now a rest

where the music is best

full of pity and strife.

How bitter does this world make us

That we should silence the sound of children singing?
