I see you on open roads.
surrounded by fields.
A thousand little flowers,
that I wish to be
connected at the roots
earthen and meaningful.
The air carves stairs into the mountains.
Thousands of miles, skyward  climb
to find you.
Petals folded inward from the thorny clutches of time.
I turn my palms to the sun
examine the lines of hard living
Sketched by some woe-begotten artist
with the strength it takes to make leather delicate.
To remove death from the dust
and turn it to a thousand tiny flowers.
I walk on open roads
with lungs full of air
and pennies meant for luck in my shoe.
