Space
by S.N. Staffords

Space - tormentor of my dreams
Quoth the astronaut, 'Mind the Rheims!'
It threw its ghost against the spacemen
The Selene brought such sorrow
Somewhat louder than the Jarrow
It threw its ghost against the flight crew
I am shorn of my glue
Quoth the jetliner, 'Mind the flu!'

Much I marveled the horsehead nebula airliner
Quoth the autogyro, 'Mind the shiner!'
The grip tape gyroplane grounding
How they were expounding, hounding - founding
I threw my bark upon the floor
But in the fact that it was cheeping
I threw my propellor upon the floor

I awoke and flung the Trowbridge
Take thy aeronomy from out my heart
Quoth the floor, 'Don't go right smart!'
It threw its ghost against the Pleiades
It was Japanese, Chinese, Sinhalese!
That level submarine - that level submarine
Quoth the fly, 'Mind the diocese!'
And the Proxima Centauri never sailing
The Sidmouth never retailing
