"Do you love me?" I asked, smiling sweetly up at him. He smiled back at me and took my hand in his. Kissing the top of my nose, he wrapped his arms around me.
"Always," he replied, his deep timbre voice sending shivers down my spine. A slow song came on in the café behind us. He slipped his hand in mine, and his other hand carressed the small of my back. We started moving in synch with the music, swaying slowly. I rested my head on his shoulder and stared out across the explansive ocean behind him. The wind blew lightly, lifting my hair. My soft curls rose and fell with the wind, seeming to dance. He chuckled. "Your hair is blowing all in my face!"
I laughed, "Sorry about that."
"Do you feel like getting ice cream?"
"You know I do!" He took me by the hand and lead me to the small ice cream shop. The bell on the door tinkled as we walked inside. There was an old couple sitting was sitting at the booth in the corner. Seeing them made me smile. He lead me to the front counter.
"Mmm, of course! And vanilla with chocolate syrup for you?" I asked, smiling gently at him.
"Obviously," he said, playfully rolling his eyes. He ordered for us as I got us a table by the window. I again looked at the ocean, noticing how ferociously beautiful it appeared. "Here you go," he said, setting my ice cream down in front of me. I took a spoonful of my ice cream and ate it.
"Ah, delicious," I murmured.
"Agreed," he said, "here, try this," he said, offering me a spoonful of his own ice cream. He fed it to me, and as I closed my lips around the plastic spoon, I looked into his eyes. They were so intense, such a deep rich chocolate brown. I could live in his eyes. They darkened and he reached his other hand across the table and gripped my own hand. We stayed like that for a couple of moments, and then I ate the ice cream and released the spoon.
"Want to taste mine?" I asked, raising one eyebrow. When he nodded, I held out my own scoop. After he ate it, I continued eating my ice cream. I could feel his gaze on me. I glanced up at him and frowned. "What is it?"
"You're so beautiful," he whispered, his voice a bit husky.
I felt the heat rise to my face, even though he made comments like this often. He still had this kind of affect on me. I gave him a small smile, and leaned across the tiny table. I pressed my forehead to his and stared into his eyes. "I didn't think it was possible to love another person as much as I love you," I whispered. Putting a hand to his cheek, I pressed my lips to his. His mouth moved beneath mine, and I felt little shocks of electricity shooting through my body. He put his hand on the base of my neck, making the skin where he was touching feel like it was on fire. I pulled away and stared into his eyes. Giving him another quick peck, I leaned back and began to eat my ice cream again. We were in an ice cream shop, after all, it was best to keep it G rated.
When we had both finished our ice cream, we walked out of the shop hand in hand. The tinkling bell bid us farwell as we walked down the boardwalk. I released his hand and stepped up to the railing, gripping it with both of my hands. I inhaled the smell of the sea and tried to memorize the moment. Everything was absolutely perfect. He came up to me from behind and pressed his body up against mine. Covering my hands with his I felt the whisper of his breath on my cheek. I shivered.
I gave a soft laugh and shook my head. I could feel his heart beating against my back, slow and steady. The pressure of his body against mine suddenly dissapeared, and I found myself turning around to see where he had gone. He was still standing behind me, looking at me with such intense love that it made me go weak in the knees.
"You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am the luckiest man alive. I can't imagine life without you, and I don't want to spend a day or an hour or even a second without you by my side. I love you," he said, slowly getting down on one knee."
I gasped, bringing one hand to my mouth. He took my other hand and smiled.
"Will you marry me?"
I giggled and looked up. "Hm, let me think about it," I joked. He was already getting up, grinning. "Yes!" I exclaimed. Linking my arms around his neck, I grinned stupidly at him. Happiness flooded me. He cradled my head and slowly sunk his mouth into mine. I broke apart momentarily to grin again. "Do I get a ring?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"But of course! I didn't forget. I was just a little," he pressed his lips to mine, "busy," he murmured against my lips. I broke away from him again and laughed heartily. I glanced down as he pulled out the ring. It was simple, but beautiful. He slipped it onto my finger and I sighed contently as I stared down at it.
He put a finger under my chin and lifted it so that I was gazing in his eyes. "No," he whispered, "you're beautiful."
