mourning doves

doubt had brought more comfort

feigned ignorance a lighter weight to bear

the self-loathing, hate, and absolute pain

she had for so long

fought

ignored

embraced

turned out to be the answers she had sought

so righteously

the hourglass was serenely still

growing thoughts like budding orchids

wilted, died, and blew away

her time as it had been was gone and

she couldn't find the

will

strength

desire

that had once almost driven her to total sanity

the clarity cut like a blade

but no blood seeped to validate the aching

her self was faded; a smudged outline of what

her hopeful mind had not so long ago

created

loved

hated

and the gate behind her closed

and the road before her called her with the warmth of

an open grave

her crackling steps the only sign her soul was still

alive

awake

her own

toward the darkest she had ever seen

where she heard the baby cry

to see the smile and touch the hand

breathes life into her desperate lungs

the mourning doves had not sounded for death but

for a new life

with so much more to give

the cobalt glass that meets my gaze with unrelenting

need

hope

love

has touched a deepness inside me i never knew i had
