The sex, you said, was like a drug, an anti-inflam,

it lessened the pain so you could ignore it.

Pain, you said, was a temporary affliction.

It hurts and then it is gone,

and in the end it doesn’t matter.

In the end, nothing matters.

Everything is temporary and soon

it will be gone.

Is love not temporary, I asked?

Love is everlasting, you said.

I don’t know what love is. I do. I know what love is.

Love is pain. Love is painful

and the pain does not go away.

It haunts and it hinders and it encompasses all.

Love is ceaseless suffering and it matters.

In the end everything matters.
