I wrote these poems from 2008 to 2010, and recently looked over them and reedited them and I really like what they've become.

Tea #1

I love to sit with tea at night

And write and write and write

After a meal graced by wine

You’re mine you’re mine you’re mine

Tea #2

Tonight I want tea and I want you

Beside me reciting lines of lives gone by

While I lay softly down to cry,

‘Why, oh why did we meet in life?

When you are of the earth

And I am of the sky?’

Tea #3

‘No one is free,’ said he,

And his bindings clanked as he moved to get his tea.

‘Did we ever be what we always wished to be?’

Muttered he and sipped did he of his tea.

‘Where is the fairy of youth, where is she?

Did she fall, or fly away?

The only being free.’

Chained

I never tuned the guitar

But I strung it and of the old

Strings made a brass bracelet

And hung it from my wrist

Had it been my heart so chained perhaps

You would remain.

Always Traveling

Always traveling she never found a home

But grew to love the sky.

I’m Not Dead

‘I’m not dead,’ he said,

‘And I’m not what you think I am in your head.

I didn’t grow to try and know

What should be done and what isn’t so.

I came by train to clear the name

Of a lady who flew to fame.

If you ask me if I love her

I’ll say there isn’t one above her.

She flew so high and so strong

She took me with her

Away from where I’m from.

She broke the rules and

Laughed at people who feared

She had no fear only strength and power

and grace and beauty

I love her.’

Fog

The clouds roll over the hills

and surround them

in fog.

Just like you surround me

all the time.

It is you who I sit with

when I’m doing nothing else

and you I talk to

when I’m thinking to myself

Letter

To a friend,

Don’t ever do that again.

Safe

Safe like inside a willow’s shrouds

yellow like the shining of a lamp

blue like the sky between the clouds

black like a free postage stamp.

Inclusive to the point of insanity

exclusive to the point of pain

sharp like knives stabbing at you happily

because you’ll never, ever live again.

Revelation

I’ve stepped

off the edge.

I realise,

all of a sudden,

that

what I did

was wrong.

But it’s

too late;

I’m already

gone.

Rain #1

i turn my face to the sky

and close my eyes against

the rain drops that fall on me

Rain #2

i walk through the downpour,

my arms are spread wide,

i soak in the freezing water.

Freedom

Freedom is blue

and like ice in summer,

tastes sharp and sweet,

It looks like an endless sky,

sounds like birds as dawn they greet,

It feels like one day being able to fly.

I Lie in the Sun

I lie in the sun with my eyes closed

and think

about how the grass left stains on my jeans

I lie in the sun with my eyes closed

and think

about how I could fly away on the wind

Secrets

As you hold my hand here and we share

these secrets, and as the red sun reflects

off the water, and as sand gives under

my feet, and as air nestles about us

I realise that it’s getting darker

I realise I should be leaving

but you’re here with me, warm as it’s colder

and without you I don’t think I can go on

so I’ll stay with you here and say only what’s true

and you’ll show me that what I’m seeing through

my eyes is also in your eyes. Tonight

I’ll share with you only what’s true.

Tonight we will see that it’s me against you.
