We sit comfortably in our homes, escaping the gore

As our brethren dress in uniform, and set out to war

These soldiers, just average teens, are drafted from family and home

To protect a country, we too, declare as our own

Left, right, left, they march, into a battlefield of vivid fears

They shed their blood, and we our tears

Some won’t get the chance to fulfill lifelong goals they’ve planned

Yet, we do not risk our lives to defend the promise land

True, prayers are said, and gifts are sent

But how long can these keep our heroes content?

Our hearts shatter, knowing how they face physical and emotional toil

Can that alone merit our claim to Israel’s soil?
