Bush street I knock on your door

the rain dripping cold

off my hair down my back

‘come in’ ‘you’re soaked’

in Chatham just down from Lines Terrace

I fall into a trance

of sweeping water over stones and the smell of

chrysanthemums

come walk with me

through a quiet Chatham

full of dreams

and sacred hearts

good night sweetheart

you were tired

and God took your hand

for a last tango

a swift half

a lay down

now it’s the twilight

the purple half light kisses you goodnight
