Dear Mother,

If you are reading this then I have broken my promise and I have left this ever changing world without you. I hope that you’ll be able to forgive my rudeness for not saying goodbye. However in knowing my time is limited I have decided to be the drama queen you expect, and write you a letter.

I wish to inform you of how dear and special you were to me in my life because I don’t think you really understand how much you mean to me…. However I can’t find words that describe how I feel. So I shall start at the beginning. I know that giving birth to me was pure hell and I was one of the most troublesome children in existence… until my brother was born. However I remember all the times you held me in your arms and cradled me in your love saying "it's alright. You will be fine". You were always there for me even when you were tired from your job and had lost your fighting spirit. I was so proud to have a mother like you who was strong, independent and caring. You are the person I wished to become.

I am so sorry I wasn't there when you needed me. I should've known that he was causing you pain, I should have entered the room to comfort you as you wept in the spare bedroom. I’m so sorry I stuck up for that man that one time even though he was abusing his rights of a father and husband. I should have shown you the bruises he caused; I should have been a good girl and told you. I hope you can forgive me for that. I wish to see you smile always like you have been these past few years… I wish to see you happy. Brother is still oblivious and will probably cry when I am gone so I am sorry for leaving you with the older sister role as well as the mother role.

Mum do you remember when we hardly had any money or furniture? Even though it was hard you always made it become positive, you'd smile saying now we can go buy new things. You would turn the worst situations into rays of hope. I remember when you would come with us, to our school activities and encourage us as we tried and failed in new things. Just thinking of that brings a smile to my face and warm tears upon my cheeks.

I am not a religious person but I believe I will stay by your side forever.

So even though you can't see me, hear me or feel me. I will always be there. I shall always think of your warm hand embracing mine and then you whisper softly “I love you”. That’s all I needed to make me feel at peace… I love you. Mum, those few words saved me. You saved me.

I Love you mum and goodbye.
