The Little Word Goodbye
By Sally Moon

Friday night, hearing your voice on the phone
Your “I’m Sorrys” attacking my tender little heart
Just like the first fifty times you told me “I’m Sorry”
Let me know you were true, nothing but genuine and pure
But letting my jealousy overcome me
Hoping for a little more attention
I hang up the phone
Without even a little goodbye

Saturday morning, seeing you at my front door
The same swarm of butterflies that attacked my stomach
Just like that day I first saw you
Made me feel like a goddess on a throne in heaven
But letting my jealousy overcome me
Hoping for a little more attention
I shut the door
Without even a little goodbye

Saturday night, seeing Her on my girls night out
A million and one knives stabbed my heart
Just like that day I saw her lean into your face
And saw you turn away as if you were avoiding a fly
But letting my jealousy overcome me
Hoping for a lot more attention
I run away from your apologies coming from the bottom of your heart
Without even a little goodbye

Sunday morning, I answer the phone
I feel my heart breaking in to a billion and one pieces
Just as if my heart just fell off a cliff, hitting rock bottom of the rockiest bottom
Made me feel like I wanted to end my life
But letting your true love overcome me
Hoping for a little bit of hope to be left
Without one memory of ever telling you goodbye
Regret overcomes my selfish, devlish body
Just as if I have just been thrown in the pit of hell

Now I do not have a choice
But to say that little word goodbye
When all I want to you say is
Hello, Hello, Hello, a zillion and one times
