She was running the vacuum cleaner when the phone rang. She let it ring a while. Somehow she knew what the person on the other end of the phone had to say. She picked up the phone after several rings.

"Ronny's back in the hospital again." She recognized the voice as her mother.

Ronny was her twin brother. That's how she knew what her mother had to say. She sometimes knows what her twin is thinking. It's a twin thing. She believes they're slightly telepathic. Sometimes she sees what he can see and vice versa.

She didn't need her twin telepathic ability to know why Ronny was in the hospital. Ronny had gone off the deep end again. He'd gone bananas. Plain crazy.

"You should really go visit him. I'm sure he'd appreciate it, said her mother.

"I don't know. I'm not sure. Not after what happened last time I visited him in the hospital. Since his crazy days."

"Don't say that about your poor brother! He's not crazy. He's just very sick. That's all," said her mother.

"Even so, I haven't even seen him since the last time he was in the hospital," she said.

"I still think you should go see him," said her mother.

She went to the hospital where Ronny was staying. Ronny's room was on the first floor. He was sitting on his bed, writing when she came in.

Knock, knock. Ronny looked up.

"Ronny!" she said.

"Oh my gosh," said Ronny. "It's been such a long time!"

The two of them caught up with each other for a while, discussing all the significant events in their lives from over the years, until she picked up on a telepathic vibe from Ronny.

"Ronny… what were you writing when I came in?" she asked.

"Oh, I was writing about the Ecksman," said Ronny.

"The Ecks-?" A nurse interrupted her.

"Excuse me, Ronny," said the nurse. "but you're not allowed female visitors in your room. You know the rules, Ronny."

"But she's only my sister!" said Ronny.

"Sorry. Rules are rules."

The two of them were forced to continue their visit in the visiting area.

"So, where were we?" asked Ronny.

"You were telling me about the Ecksman."

"Oh, right. The Ecksman. He's my scary friend. the doctors tell me he isn't real. I guess he's not real, I don't know. They say he's just part of my condition."

"Does the Ecksman tell you things, Ronny?" she asked.

"Not really. He's silent. He shows me things sometimes, though. For example, his eye always has a number in it, and that number tells me how I'm feeling out of ten. Lately, he's been hovering around a five or six. Right now it's…" Ronny paused, looked just behind her. "a seven! Your visit must have really picked things up!"

She froze in horror. She slowly turned around. She  must have been having another telepathic moment with Ronny, because behind her she saw a tall slim being with a misshapen head looking back at her. One normal eye, and one large eye, featuring the number 7.

She screamed! She told Ronny she had to go, that she couldn't see him anymore. She couldn't go back to that horrifying place. She made it clear she would never go back there again.
